I’m seriously considering whether or not I’ll be able to do NaNoWriMo this year. I will probably have a LOT of comic pages coming through the studio during November — which is wonderful, because it’s work I love and I also get paid for — but if that’s the case, then 1667 words per day is simply not going to be achievable.
On the other hand, I might still be able to use the NaNo structure to turn out a lower daily word count: say, 500 words per day. And that would still give me 15000 more words on my current WIP, “Where Darkness Falls” — which is not to be sneezed at. Plus I find that if I’m up over my eyebrows in visually creative work, taking a break each day to do some writing actually increases my visual art output because it allows me to “switch gears”, reboot my brain, and refresh my workflow.
So likely the November writing goal will be 500 words per day, while registered for NaNoWriMo. I won’t win this year, but the structure provided by the contest will still prove immensely useful. 🙂
