When it comes to “small” I’m used to working on ACEOs, name tags, and business cards.
This layout, though? It bends my brain.
Below, for your consideration: three bookmark designs. (The dimensions for the third one came from a bookmark template provided by a marketing maven. I have NO idea what system they’re set up for, because it sure ain’t VistaPrint… and by the way, VistaPrint? When you provide specs for your bookmarks, I expect your dimensions to correspond to ACTUAL BOOKMARK SIZES. None of this “Oh, the document you end up with is 2.18×1.blahblahblah!” stuff, which only confuses and annoys me.)
But I managed to figure it out in the end. I think. I hope. At any rate, for a first-to-third pass none of these look too shabby. Still some tinkering to do though. With the biggest wrench I’ve got handy.

I’ve never worked to 2’x4′ proportions, although I have made my fair share of business cards.
You know what’s really tough?
Bookmarks. Those little beasts are torturous.
For today, though — let’s look at the vinyl banner and the second draft of my business card. All feedback welcomed!

Photoshop work on a photograph taken by a friend (all rights gifted to me), of our beloved cat Micawber, who passed away several years ago. What a dear, big boy! He is still sorely missed.
May his soul play forever among the stars.

Is this a hopeful story of peaceful exploration? Or a suspenseful tale of interstellar war?
I still haven’t decided. 🙂
